THANK YOU!

Hello Parents!

I just want to say THANK YOU! for coming out on Back to School Night. I hope I answered any questions or concerns that you may have had about this class.

 Just a few things...
Please make sure all supplies are with your scholar starting Tues. Sept. 4th.  That includes their composition book, pencil pouch with crayons, glue stick, pens, pencils, etc., and their Chapter Book for Independent Reading.

We have a field trip planned for Oct. 18th, more information will be coming soon.

Hello Hello Hello!

The school year has begun and I am sooooo excited with my six grade students.
Just a few concerns that will be corrected in the near future for example; lockers, supplies, and students just getting comfortable in their new environment.

A bit of housekeeping:
Please make sure that you have sent back the following:
Student Code of Conduct with signatures from parents and students
Family Information Card completely filled out
Free/Reduce lunch application

School supplies:
As I mentioned to my students there are some specific supplies that I would like to have in my class, however I know a lot of parents have already purchased supplies, and also other teachers may have a list of supplies in their class as well. So, I would like to call this my wish list for my student supplies....
Mechanical Pencils (no pencil sharpners and pencil shavings)
Tissues
Hand Santizer
1 Composition book college ruled
Notebook Paper college ruled
2 Pens (black/blue)
2 Colored Pens (no red)
Colored pencils or crayons
Glue Stick
Scissors
1- 3 in 3 ring binder with dividers

About Me...



My name is Rhonda V. Patterson, and I am your child’s 6th  grade teacher. I am so excited to have the opportunity to work at Stephen Decatur Middle School. I will be teaching English/Reading and World Cultures/Geography.  Below is just a brief background of my teaching credentials and my expectations of your child.

I have a B.S. in Sociology from Virginia State University, two Masters’ in Education, Curriculum and Instruction from National Louis University and Elementary Education from
the University of Phoenix. I am currently a Doctoral candidate in Educational Leadership at the University of Phoenix.  I have been an educator for 11 years and have served in many capacities such as lead teacher, grade level chair, union representative and multicultural chair just to name a few.

I have high expectations for my class this year. My goal is to raise our students to a higher level of critical thinking using the new common core standards that will help them achieve academic success in sixth grade and prepare them for the future by being college ready. I assure you that your student will have an exciting adventure in their learning in sixth grade. Please ensure they come to school prepared and ready to learn. I welcome your support as I understand that we must have excellent home to school communication.
